Hi steve, you can buy a stud finder in most diy stores,or there should be a 2by2 at a corner and then every 18inch, drill smallest of holes where it wont be seen you will know if you hit the timber, hope this helps you out, Des.

If you do not have a sort of metal detector, which would locate the screws that attach the board to the stud. Then the best way would be to tap the wall with your knuckles, it will sound denser where the studs are and hollow where not. Then to locate the centre of the stud, just hammer a long panel pin into the wall a few millimetres apart, you will know when you reach the stud. EASY EH ?

Hi steve get a stud finder from a hardware store, or you could try measuring from the corner of the wall at 400 centers and then make a small hole with a nail and you should find the stud around this area if the wall has been constructed correctly.

if the wall is timber there will be a 2by2 in the corner from this your timber uprights should be set at 400mm centres' hammer a small nail into the wall to confirm, you may also use a coin to gently tap the wall to confirm location. Regards Built4life

I would suggest that you use a stud detector, you can buy them from any DIY shop and it should cost you about £15. They detect wood, metal, cables etc. hope that helps richard
