Installing 3 Phase Stove
27 Aug 2010
Hiring an electrical contractor is a great idea because it saves you the hassle of doing electrics yourself. But if you want to save more, you can install your 3 phase stove yourself.
Step 1
Firstly, you need to turn the power to the stove off at your main circuit board.
Step 2
Remove the old oven, but be sure that you are careful not to damage the connection and the flooring. Refer to your local electrical contractor for advice on how to this correctly.
Step 3
Next, take the cover of the new stove’s junction box off. You should see 4 terminals.
Step 4
The following steps would be best performed by an electrical contractor. Install your power cord to the 4 terminals. New stoves do not come with a power cord as the power outlets vary from home to home. If it is 4-prong, remove the copper strip connected to the middle terminal. If it is 3-prong, the strip must stay in place.
Step 5
Then place a strain relief into the power cord on the oven, but it must be left loose in order to insert the power cord as recommended by an electrical contractor.
Step 6
Connect the black and red hot leads to the exterior terminals and the green lead to the surface and the white to the central neutral terminal.
Step 7
Fasten the strain relief and shut the junction box. You can now plug the oven to the proper outlet.
Step 8
Place your stove into its position and then use a spirit level on the top of the stove. If it is not level, adjust the legs of the stove until it sits perfectly level and stable.
Step 9
Once you have done this, you can turn the power back on by the circuit board. You can also get an electrical contractor to check everything is in order for you.
